Horse manure is a time honoured favourite, for many different reasons. Leaves are quite hard to break down, and the weight of them  especially if they get rained on  can be a factor on its own that will stop them from turning. It is readily available due to its broadly known nature for its beneficial uses. Since leaves lack nitrogen, they are likely to just mould and rot away, leaving you with a gross pile instead of useable compost. However, if you churn up and break down the leaves, they are likely to compost a lot quicker. Grass clippings are the suburban solution for many leaf-based compost piles. 

The main ingredient to your leaves will be carbon. There are hundreds of nitrogen rich products and things that you can place in to your leaf pile, some of them may cost you money, yet others you can find and use with ease. Manure can be used to start compost piles up from leaves.You can turn leaves in to compost with ease. The quicker you can turn those leaves in to compost, the quicker your plants will benefit. Compost doesn't seem to do a lot at first, but when new buds start flowering you really start to notice just how well the dirt and scraps are affecting your lawns and plants. 

This means that horse manure, rabbit manure, even dog and cat manure, can be mixed in with the leaves. A pitchfork to flip and mix these leaves around can solve this problem, however it will need to be done incredibly often. This needs something to react with, to break down the leaves and turn it in to glorious compost. The higher your nitrogen source, the quicker your leaves should begin to break down and wither away. However, horse manure usually contains worms of some kind, which will devour and churn up your composting pile, making it even quicker to turn in to compost. 

They will react with the leaves, turning them in to something that can be broken down. Everything can become compost, all the plants that you have in your garden can be taken up and put into a compost heap to become tasty and nutritious soil. Or even mulch, if you so wish.. It can be difficult to turn leaves in to compost if cap mould design you don't know what you are doing, but with a little knowledge and some time, you can have a beautiful compost pile growing right in front of your eyes in no time. Nitrogen is the key.
